Reno Zombie Crawl 2026: What to Know Before You Join the Horde Downtown
Saturday, October 17, starting at Circus Circus. The cheap cup tiers are gone, the fast pass sold out, and there's no last call. How the crawl works, what the cup gets you, and how a birthday idea became Reno's biggest Halloween night.
The Reno Zombie Crawl is back on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and for one night downtown Reno belongs to the dead. Crawl Reno bills it at 20,000 zombies and more than 40 bars, all within walking distance, with no last call. It starts at Circus Circus at 8 pm and runs until 2 am, and you have to be 21.
If you’ve never been, picture a bar crawl the size of a small town where nearly everyone is in fake blood.
The cup is your ticket
Everything runs on the crawl cup. It’s how every bar knows you’re part of the crawl, so don’t lose it. Cups sell in price tiers that climb as the cheap ones sell out, and as of September 28 the $7, $9, and $11 tiers were gone. The $15 tier was on sale, plus about $2.50 in fees, and the top tier is $20. Buy through crawlreno.com, which sells through Afton Tickets.
Here’s what the cup gets you:
- A $4 beer special, a $4 drink special, and a non-alcoholic special at every participating bar, with more than 150 specials across the crawl
- No cover charge anywhere on the route
- The commemorative cup and the crawl map
- Entry to the photo booth and the costume contests
- Discounted hotel rooms downtown
Bars that don’t serve beer or liquor mark it on the map and run their own $4 specials instead.
The $75 Fast Pass wristband, which puts one person at the front of the line at any venue, had sold out by late September with a waitlist running. It doesn’t include a cup, so wristband holders still need one for the specials. Designated drivers need a cup too, but ask for a DD bracelet at pickup and the sodas are free all night.
Picking up your cup
Cups bought online wait at the start tent at Circus Circus from 2 to 8 pm on crawl night, at the table marked Online Pickup. Bring an ID that matches the name on the order, or send a friend with your confirmation email to scan. If the crawl hasn’t sold out, walk-up cups go on sale in the Circus Circus ballroom, on the ground floor by the sportsbook, from 2 to 9 pm. Last year it sold out.
One tip straight off last year’s map: lines and crowds thin out the farther you get from the start.
Where the crawl goes
The 2026 bar lineup and map weren’t posted as of September 28. Crawl Reno promised them in September, and its site still shows 2025 for reference, so last year’s crawl is the best preview. The 2025 map counted 43 parties split between the Brewery District and the Riverwalk District, including four casino resorts:
- Circus Circus: El Jefe’s, with DJs and go-go dancers
- Silver Legacy: Rum Bullions and Topgolf
- Eldorado: Bar Centro, Brew Brothers, Novi, and Roxy
- J Resort: Afterglow and the Main Bar, with a live band
The standalone bars went all in. Club Underground booked three live bands, The Jesse became a “Haunted Mediterranean Speakeasy,” Black Rabbit ran a goth and darkwave Batcave Night, Thai Corner Cafe built its own haunted house, and Playfield offered free pinball. Abby’s Highway 40 lit fire pits with s’mores kits. For the long haul, Dead Ringer Analog Bar ran EDM until 6 am while Dubs kept its kitchen open until 3 with a limited-edition Zombie Burger.
Costumes and contests
Costumes are technically optional. Crawl Reno’s own verdict is that it’s “WAYYYYYYYYYY more fun” if you dress up, and walking downtown as the only person without fake blood is its own kind of horror. Last year makeup artists worked at Circus Circus and J Resort, including walk-up makeup from Body Paint Factory at Circus Circus starting at 2 pm.
The contests run bar by bar, and 2025’s show the stakes: $250 for the best group costume at Dubs at midnight, $100 for Most Original at Dtension, and $50 bar tabs for the photo and best-dressed contests at Forest St Station, Virginia Street Brewhouse, and 5 Star Saloon. The Arlington Saloon handed out gift cards for the creepiest costumes all night. Expect the 2026 contest slate to post with the new map.
The house rules
Crawl Reno posts seven:
- Dump it, drink it, or stay. Open containers outside are illegal.
- No drinking in line.
- No weapons, not even fake ones. Leave the prop machete at home.
- You must be 21, even if you aren’t drinking.
- Be cool to the staff.
- Don’t litter, and don’t pee outside.
- Use the crosswalks and obey the signals.
Every bar checks ID. If you’ve lost your license, a passport works.
Getting home
Crawl Reno’s safety list comes down to pacing yourself and knowing how you’re getting home before the first drink. The easiest answer is a room downtown. The 2026 crawl rates with code SRZOM6 are $50 for Saturday night at Circus Circus (Sky Deluxe) and $90 at the Silver Legacy (Deluxe), with Friday and Sunday nights cheaper. The booking deadline on the crawl site reads “Friday, October 8th,” which looks carried over from an earlier year, so book early instead of trusting the date.
How a birthday idea got this big
Founder Ed Adkins started the crawl in 2008. His birthday falls in October, and that year Halloween landed on a Friday, which was all the excuse he needed. He told the Reno News & Review in 2013 that about 200 people showed up. Crawl Reno’s own count for year one is 300. Either way, it started as a few hundred zombies and a good idea.
By 2015 Crawl Reno was reporting about 20,000 crawlers across 51 bars, and the season around it had grown a mass Thriller dance and a zombie 5K down Virginia Street. Reno police put the 2016 crowd closer to 15,000, which is still a small city’s worth of the undead. Crawl Reno says USA Today named it one of the 10 best costumed Halloween parties in the country.
It has a little haunt history baked in, too. The 2015 and 2016 crawls ran their festivities alongside the Slaughter House, the big haunted house at the downtown ballpark, back when Reno still had one within walking distance of the bars.
COVID cancelled the 2020 crawl. It came back in 2021 with a start at the Sands Regency and masks under the state mandate, and in 2022 it opened with a massive group photo under the Arch and spread into the Brewery District. Last year’s crawl sold out.
Buy from the real one
Copycat sites have sold “Reno zombie crawl” tickets before. Crawl Reno has publicly called out Pubcrawls.com for reusing its crawl name and text, so buy from crawlreno.com or its Afton Tickets page and nowhere else.
Make it a haunt weekend
The crawl isn’t a haunt. Nobody jumps out at you except other crawlers. But it lands right in the middle of haunt season, and it’s easy to build a weekend around it. The night before, Friday, October 16, Dark Prison, Corn Creepers, The Final Hour, and Tahoe Terror are all open, and The Final Hour and Tahoe Terror both run until midnight. The full Halloween calendar has everything else happening that weekend.
